Editing an image

Upload a picture or pick one of yours, say what should change, and everything else stays as it was.

Starting an edit

An Images edit always starts from a picture. There are two ways in:

  • Edit image on the Images page, or Edit an image in the sidebar, opens the dialog with an empty upload field.
  • Edit this image on a result page opens it with that image already filled in. No upload needed.

Uploads can be logos, clothing, screenshots or banners in PNG, JPG, WebP and most other formats. Large pictures are scaled to 1536 pixels on the long side before editing.

Describing the change

Write what should change and, where it matters, what must stay: "Make the hoodie dark green, #163A2A. Keep the logo where it is." Hex colors work.

The quick starts under the field fill in requests that work well:

  • Remove background

    Cuts out the main subject and switches on Transparent background.

  • Change a color

    Recolors one item and keeps logo, shape and light.

  • Replace text

    Swaps a word or line for new text in the same font, size and color.

  • Add my logo

    Places the logo from a reference image on a spot you name.

  • Night scene

    Turns the picture into a wet, neon-lit night and keeps the layout.

Parts in [brackets] are gaps to fill, and the first one is selected so you can type over it. The Edit button stays off until every gap is filled.

Reference images

An edit takes up to 3 extra pictures under Reference images: a logo to place, an outfit to wear or a style to match. Say in the request what to do with each one, for example "Put the logo from the reference image on the chest, at a natural size."

Quality, background, shape and format

  • Edit

    100 credits. Colors, text, objects and backgrounds. Usually 20 to 60 seconds.

  • Edit HQ

    300 credits. The finest detail, for photos and print. Takes longer.

  • Transparent background

    Saves a PNG or WebP with real transparency, for icons, decals and overlays. JPEG is not offered then.

  • Shape

    Keep original (the default) keeps the proportions of your picture. 1:1, 16:9, 9:16 and 4:3 change them.

  • Format

    PNG (the default), WebP or JPEG.

Comparing and chaining edits

After you start an edit, its result page opens and shows your picture while the edit runs. When it is done, the page shows the original and the edit in one frame, split by a handle.

Dragging the handle across the image uncovers the original sign with MOTORWORKS and the edit with NORTHSIDE AUTO. The wall, the light and the wood stay the same.
  • Result only shows the edit alone, Compare brings the handle back.
  • Edit this image on an edit starts the next edit from it, so changes can be built up step by step.
  • Open the original image under the result goes back to the picture the edit started from, when that picture is one of your images.
