Your first conversion

From a model file to a prop on your server in six steps. The conversion itself usually takes under a minute.

Before you start

  • A SwisserAI account. Conversions cost no credits.
  • A 3D model, ideally a GLB with its textures inside. See Preparing your model.
  • Access to your FiveM server files and its server.cfg.

Good to know

No account? The free converter does steps 3 and 5 on one page, without settings. See The free converter.

The six steps

We convert a small workbench model. The same flow works for any prop.

  1. 1

    Open the dialog

In the sidebar open Assets and press New asset at the top right. The same dialog also makes props from photos.

  2. 2

    Choose Upload a model

Switch the source to Upload a model. The dialog confirms that the conversion is free and shows the accepted file types.

    1. 1. Upload a model: the second source
    2. 2. Conversion is free
    3. 3. Click or drag a 3D file here
  3. 3

Pick the file and a name

Drop the file on the drop zone or click it to browse. Then give the prop a Name. It becomes the model name you spawn in game, in lowercase with underscores, such as workbench.

    1. 1. 3D model: the file you picked
    2. 2. Name: becomes the model name in game
    3. 3. World prop / Hero object: sets the triangle and texture budget
  4. 4

    Check the settings

World prop, texture size 512 and Separate files suit most props. Pick Hero object for props seen up close. Every option is explained in Conversion settings.

    1. 1. Texture size: largest texture edge in pixels
    2. 2. Packaging: four files or one YDR
    3. 3. Create asset: free for uploads
  5. 5

    Create the asset

Press Create asset. The job page shows each step of the conversion. Half of all conversions finish in under 15 seconds, nine in ten within a minute. You can close the page; the prop lands in your assets either way.

When it is done, the prop opens in the 3D editor. Check its size in the bar at the top, or press Show size to see a person next to it.

    1. 1. FiveM .zip: the ready resource
    2. 2. Model stats: triangles and size in metres
    3. 3. Show size: a person next to the model for scale
  6. 6

    Install it on your server

Press FiveM .zip. Make a folder named after the prop in your server's resources directory, unzip the download into it and add one line to server.cfg:

    ensure workbench

Restart the server and reconnect. Spawning the prop from a script and placing it in a map are explained in the 3D Generator guide, which uses the same resources: Spawn it from a script.
