FAQ
Short answers to what people ask most about the Handling Editor.
General
Is the Handling Editor free?
Yes. It needs no account and uses no credits.
Do you store my handling file?
No. The file is read in your browser and never uploaded. The download is built in your browser as well.
Does the editor save my tune?
No. A reload starts over with the stock Sultan. Download the resource or copy the handling.meta when you are done; to continue later, load that file again.
How accurate is the top speed?
Within about 3 % for most cars: 80 % of 617 measured cars were inside that. See How accurate the numbers are.
Cars and files
Does it work with addon cars?
Yes. Drop the addon car's handling.meta on the editor and pick the entry. Everything the editor does not show stays in the entry and comes back in the export. See Your own handling.meta.
Which GTA V cars are built in?
44 vehicles across the common classes. Any other vanilla car works when you load its entry as a file; its values are in the vehicle table.
Can I tune a motorcycle?
Yes, the fields are the same. The top speed is the speed on two wheels; a wheelie in game can be faster. Load the bike's own file, so the export keeps its bike block.
Does it work for boats, planes and helicopters?
Only as far as the shared fields go. The numbers are made for cars on a road, and the boat, plane and helicopter blocks are not shown. An uploaded entry keeps them unchanged.
Does it work for single-player GTA V?
The handling.meta format is the same. Copy the values from the export into your mod's handling file. The FiveM install steps do not apply there.
On the server
Can I change handling without a restart?
For testing, yes: SetVehicleHandlingFloat changes the car you sit in, except for Max flat velocity, Gears, Mass. For everyone and for good, install the file and restart. See Test it in game.
Can I tune several cars in one resource?
Yes. Export each car, then paste all <Item type="CHandlingData"> blocks into one data/handling.meta inside the same <HandlingData> list. One fxmanifest is enough.
Can I edit the handling flags?
Not in the editor. It shows the 29 fields that change how the car drives and keeps the flags of your file. The strHandlingFlags page has a flag calculator; edit the flags in the file by hand.
Do players still get upgrades on top?
Yes. Upgrades from a tuning shop come from the game, on top of your file. Fully upgraded in the editor shows what a car with the engine upgrades and one extra gear does.
