Loading a car or a file

Start from one of the built-in GTA V cars, or drop the handling.meta of your own addon car. Nothing leaves your browser.

The built-in cars

The Vehicle list of the Handling Editor holds 44 GTA V vehicles with their real handling values, grouped by class. The class of the picked car shows at the top right of the box.

  1. 1. Vehicle: pick one of the built-in cars
  2. 2. Drop your handling.meta here or click to upload: load your own file instead
  3. 3. Stock / Fully upgraded: the car without or with its upgrades
  • Compact

    Blista, Issi
  • Coupe

    Sentinel XS
  • Emergency

    Police Cruiser (Stanier)
  • Motorcycle

    Bati 801, Sanchez
  • Muscle

    Dominator, Gauntlet
  • Off Road

    Sandking XL
  • Service

    Taxi
  • Sport

Banshee, Buffalo, Comet, Elegy Retro Custom, Elegy RH8, Feltzer, Futo, Itali RSX, Jester, Kuruma, Massacro, Pariah, Penumbra, Sultan
  • Sport Classic

    Monroe, Z-Type
  • Super

Adder, Cheetah, Cyclone, Deveste Eight, Entity XF, Infernus, Krieger, Osiris, Sultan RS, T20, Tempesta, Tezeract, Turismo R, Vagner, Zentorno
  • Suv

    Baller (Old), Dubsta, Mesa

Every other vanilla land vehicle is in the vehicle table (657 vehicles) with its predicted top speed and core values. To tune one of those, load its entry as a file.

Your own handling.meta

Drop the handling.meta of your addon car on the dashed box, or click the box and pick the file. The editor takes .meta and .xml files. When it has read the file, the box turns green:

  1. 1. SULTAN (uploaded): the entry you are editing
  2. 2. handling.meta: 1 entry, editing SULTAN: file name, entries, the one in the editor
  • The list shows the entry as SULTAN (uploaded), its handlingName, and the class line reads Custom · SULTAN.
  • The editor reads the 29 fields it shows, plus the handling flags and two values the lap estimate uses (centre of mass height and inertia).
  • Everything else in the entry, such as damage values, SubHandlingData and model flags, stays untouched and comes back in the export.
  • The file is read in your browser. It is never uploaded.

An uploaded car has no class ranges and no measured values, because the editor does not know which car it is. The numbers work the same way.

A field that is missing from your entry

If your entry has no line for one of the 29 fields, the editor shows that field at its lowest value (Gears at 5), and a change to it is not written to the export. Add the line to the file first, with its value, and load it again.

A file with several cars

A car pack often keeps many cars in one handling.meta. When the file has more than one entry, the browser asks which one to edit:

This file has 3 entries. Which one?
1. CARONE
2. CARTWO
3. CARTHREE
  • Type the number of the entry and confirm. Cancel, or a number that does not exist, picks the first or the last entry.
  • You edit one entry at a time. The export contains only that entry, which is enough to override it.
  • For another car of the same pack, load the file again and pick the next number.

Stock or fully upgraded

Stock shows the car as it spawns, without upgrades. Fully upgraded adds the engine upgrades and one extra gear, the state most public speed tests use. For built-in cars with a public measurement, the top speed then shows it next to the prediction:

  1. 1. in 6th gear · measured 187: prediction and a measured top speed side by side

The mode only changes the numbers. The handling.meta you download is the same in both modes, because upgrades come from the game, not from the file.

Reset and switching cars

  • Reset puts every field back to the values the car was loaded with. It is grey while nothing has changed.
  • Picking another car in Vehicle loads that car fresh and drops your changes.
  • The editor does not save anything. A reload of the page starts again with the stock Sultan. Download or copy your tune before you leave.
