Start

Your first reskin

From a .ydr to a new prop on your server in seven steps. We turn a red road barrier blue. Takes about five minutes.

Before you start

  • A SwisserAI account with at least 40 credits.
  • A prop as .ydr. We use a road barrier made with the 3D Generator, which comes as road_barrier.ydr plus road_barrier.ytd. See where props come from.
  • Access to your FiveM server files and its server.cfg.

The seven steps

We turn the red and white road barrier into a blue and white one and spawn it as barrier_blue.

  1. 1

    Open Prop Reskin

In the sidebar open Assets, then Prop Reskin.

    1. 1. Prop Reskin: opens your reskins

The Prop Reskins page lists your reskins. Press New Reskin to open the Reskin Studio.

  2. 2

    Drop the prop

Drag road_barrier.ydr and road_barrier.ytd together onto the drop zone, or click it and pick both files. A prop with its textures inside the .ydr needs only that one file.

    1. 1. Reskin a prop: drop the .ydr, plus its .ytd if it has one
    2. 2. What makes a great prop: embedded textures, the original prop

The studio reads the prop and opens it. Ours took 8 seconds.

  3. 3

    Pick the texture

The Textures list on the left shows every texture of the prop. Click texture_diffuse: it is the one the model in the 3D preview uses.

    1. 1. 0/3: edited textures out of all textures
    2. 2. texture_diffuse: the texture of the full-detail model
    3. 3. Download, Replace: appear when you point at a row

    Good to know

Not sure which texture is which? Change one and watch the 3D preview. If the model does not change, that texture belongs to something else. See finding the right texture.

  4. 4

    Recolour it

Press Layers at the top right of the editor and click the Texture layer. In its settings open Color and drag Hue to 120°. Click the slider and use the arrow keys for exact values.

    1. 1. Hue: turns every colour around the colour wheel
The Hue slider of the Texture layer is dragged from 0 to about 120 degrees. The red stripes on the flat texture turn blue, and a moment later the barrier in the live 3D preview shows the same blue stripes.
  5. 5

    Check it on the model

The live preview bottom left shows the barrier with blue stripes a moment after the change. Drag it to look at the back.

    1. 1. Live preview: drag to turn, scroll to zoom
    2. 2. Hide the 3D preview

    Note

Hue turns every colour of the texture, so the orange lamps turned pink too. To keep a part as it was, paint over it on a new layer. See recolouring a texture.

  6. 6

    Name it and create it

In the right panel, set Spawn name to barrier_blue. The line under it shows the name the prop gets in game. Press Create reskin; the price sits right above it.

    1. 1. Spawn name: the model name in game
    2. 2. Add variant: more skins in one pack
    3. 3. GPU memory: estimate per prop
    4. 4. Create reskin: 40 credits

The job page opens and shows the build stages. Ours was done after 15 seconds. Then the page shows the new prop in 3D and FiveM .zip at the top right.

    1. 1. Share with the community: optional
    2. 2. FiveM .zip: the ready resource
  7. 7

    Install it and spawn it

Make a folder barrier_blue in your server's resources and unzip the download into it, so that fxmanifest.lua sits directly in that folder. Add one line to server.cfg and restart the server:

    ensure barrier_blue

The prop now spawns by its name, barrier_blue, like any other prop. For a quick test, this client script adds a /barrier command that puts one in front of you:

    RegisterCommand('barrier', function()
        local model = `barrier_blue`
        RequestModel(model)
while not HasModelLoaded(model) do Wait(0) end
        local pos = GetOffsetFromEntityInWorldCoords(PlayerPedId(), 0.0, 2.0, 0.0)
        local obj = CreateObject(model, pos.x, pos.y, pos.z, true, false, false)
        PlaceObjectOnGroundProperly(obj)
        SetModelAsNoLongerNeeded(model)
    end)
