Make your reskin

The editor

Recolour, paint on, write on or replace each texture, and see it on the model in the live 3D preview while you work.

Finding your way around

The Reskin Studio has three columns. The editor in the middle always shows the texture you picked on the left.

  1. 1. Textures: every texture of the prop
  2. 2. Texture bar: Remove bg, Download, Replace, Preview
  3. 3. Live preview
  4. 4. AI Design
  5. 5. Create reskin: the price is right above it
  • Left: the Textures list. Click a texture to open it.
  • Middle: the texture bar, the editor with its tools at the bottom, and the live 3D preview bottom left.
  • Right: AI Design at the top, the new prop settings below it and Create reskin at the bottom.
  • Start over in the header closes the prop, so you can drop another one. Unsaved work is lost.

Switching to another texture keeps your changes on the one you leave. Its layers come back when you open it again.

The texture bar

  1. 1. texture_diffuse: the texture you edit
  2. 2. Remove bg: clears a flat background
  3. 3. Download: saves the texture as PNG
  4. 4. Replace: uses your own image instead
  5. 5. Preview: shows or hides the 3D preview
  • Revert

Only shown once the texture is changed. Throws away every change and brings back the original.
  • Remove bg

Makes a flat background transparent, starting from the four corners. Meant for logos and decals on a plain colour.
  • Download

Saves the texture as it is now as a PNG.
  • Replace

Replaces the texture with an image file from your computer.
  • Preview

Shows or hides the live 3D preview.
  1. 1. Revert: back to the original texture

Recolouring a texture

The fastest reskin is a colour change. The texture opens as one picture layer called Texture. Press Layers at the top right of the editor, click Texture, and its settings show Light and Color sliders.

  1. 1. Hue: turns every colour around the colour wheel
  • Hue

Turns every colour around the colour wheel. On the barrier, 120° made red blue and -60° made it amber.
  • Saturation, Vibrance

    Stronger or paler colours.
  • Temperature, Tint

Warmer or cooler, greener or more magenta.
  • Light: Exposure, Contrast and more

    Brighter, darker, harder or softer.
The Hue slider of the Texture layer is dragged from 0 to about 120 degrees. The red stripes on the flat texture turn blue, and a moment later the barrier in the live 3D preview shows the same blue stripes.

Click a slider and use the arrow keys for exact values, with Shift for steps of 10. A double click resets it. Reset next to Color resets the whole group.

Note

Hue changes every colour on the texture, not just the one you look at. On the barrier the orange lamps turned pink. To keep a part, paint its old colour back on a new layer with the Brush, or change that texture with an image instead.

Painting, text and images

The tool bar at the bottom of the editor holds the same tools as the other studios: Move (V), Brush (B), Eraser (E), Text (T), Shape (U) and Add an image (I). Everything you add is its own layer on top of the texture, so you can move, hide or delete it later.

  • Text in 13 fonts, with fill, outline and letter spacing, for signs, labels and numbers.
  • Add an image places a logo. A PNG with a transparent background works best; Remove bg helps with a plain background.
  • Shape draws rectangles and ellipses for panels and stripes.
  • Ctrl+Z undoes, Ctrl+Shift+Z redoes, + and - zoom. The question mark button lists every shortcut.

The Livery Studio guide describes the same tools in detail. A texture is laid out flat like a paper model, so check text and logos on the 3D preview before you build.

The live 3D preview

The preview bottom left shows the prop with your current textures, a moment after every change. It turns slowly on its own; drag to turn it and scroll to zoom. The Hide the 3D preview button closes it and Preview in the texture bar brings it back.

  1. 1. Live preview: drag to turn, scroll to zoom
  2. 2. Hide the 3D preview
  • The preview shows the full detail model. A texture that does not change it is not on that model; see finding the right texture.
  • The preview sits over the lower left of the editor. On smaller screens it can cover the first tools; hide it while you paint.

Your own image instead

Replace swaps the texture for a PNG, JPG or WebP file up to 32 MB. The row buttons in the Textures list do the same for any texture without opening it first.

  • The build scales your image to the texture's original size and format, for example 512 × 512. Use the same shape, or it gets stretched.
  • Start from the original: press Download, paint over the PNG in your own program, then Replace with it. The layout then still fits the model.
  • A replaced texture can still be edited in the studio afterwards.

GPU memory

Under the new prop settings the studio shows the estimated GPU memory of one prop, for example ~1.0 MB GPU memory per prop. FiveM warns about assets above 16 MB; the line turns amber above that. Replacing textures keeps their size, so your edits do not change it.
