Troubleshooting

Most problems come from the files you drop in or from editing a texture the model does not use. Start at the top.

The prop does not load

The Reskin Studio drop zone shows these messages when it cannot open a prop:

  • Please choose a .ydr file. You dropped another format. Only .ydr (with an optional .ytd) is read.
  • Drop the matching .ydr together with the .ytd. You dropped only the .ytd. Select both files and drop them at once.
  • No embedded textures found in this .ydr. If the prop ships with a .ytd next to it, drop both files together. The textures are in a separate .ytd. Find it next to the .ydr and drop both.
  • File is larger than 64 MB. Each file can be up to 64 MB.
  • sourcePropYdr must be a binary .ydr (RSC7) file: the file is not a binary game file, for example an XML export. Export it again as .ydr.
  • Any other error while reading: try again, and if it repeats, report it with the file name so we can look at the prop.

My edit does not show on the model

The 3D preview shows the full detail model. When a change does not appear there, the texture you edit belongs to something else, usually a far-away model of the prop.

  • Press Revert on that texture, open the next one in the Textures list and try again.
  • The name helps: textures ending in lod1, lod2 or similar belong to the far-away models and cannot be changed.
  • If the preview shows nothing at all, press Preview in the texture bar. It can take a few seconds to load the model.

Create is greyed out

  • Nothing changed yet. The panel says Edit a texture from the list to enable creating.
  • No name. Fill in Spawn name or Pack name.
  • Not enough credits. The panel says how many you need, with Top up.
  • A skin without changes. In a pack, the create step stops with a message like barrier_2 has no edits yet. Edit or delete it before creating the pack. Change a texture on that skin or delete it.

The name is rejected

After Create reskin, the panel can show one of these under the settings:

  • 'prop_' is a vanilla GTA namespace. Start the name with your own prefix instead: use your own prefix, for example myserver_.
  • collides with a vanilla GTA object name. Pick a different name: the name is already a GTA object; this happens when you keep the name of a GTA prop.
  • Duplicate variant name: two skins in a pack have the same name. Rename one in the variant strip.
  • The price just changed. A discount started or ended while you worked. Check the price and press create again.

The build failed

A failed build is not charged; the credits held for it are released. The job page shows the error.

  • A texture the model does not use. The error names the texture and ends in nicht unter tex-nodes, followed by the textures the model does use. Open the prop again, change only those, and create again. See finding the right texture.
  • Temporary failure on our side. Try again in a little while. If it repeats with the same prop, report it from the job page.

The prop does not spawn in game

  • Folder. The zip has no folder of its own. fxmanifest.lua must sit directly in your resource folder, not one level deeper and not loose in resources.
  • server.cfg. The ensure line must match the folder name exactly.
  • Restart. Restart the server and reconnect after installing.
  • Name. Spawn the exact spawn name from the job page, for example barrier_blue, not the name of the original prop.
  • Twice. Two resources that stream the same spawn name clash. Keep each name in one resource.
  • From a distance. A prop that came with a .ytd can look different far away, because the far-away models keep their own textures. See the note on far-away models.

Still stuck

Use Report a problem at the bottom right of the job page, so we see the reskin you mean, or ask in the SwisserAI Discord. Mention the prop, the texture you changed and what you see.
