Placing props

Pick a prop, move its ghost into the room, click. Rotate with R, stack small things on tables, hang decor on walls.

Placing a prop

Press Furnish and click a prop in the catalogue. Move the mouse into a room: a ghost box in the size of the prop follows it on the 0.5 m grid. Click to place the prop there.

A round table is picked in the catalogue; its green ghost follows the mouse across the floor and a click places it. Two bistro chairs follow, turned with R so they face the table, one on each side. Played at twice the speed.
  • The prop stays picked, so every further click places another one. Esc or a second click on the card stops.
  • While a prop is picked, the bottom of the catalogue reads Click in the room to place · R rotates · Esc cancels.
  • You can place up to 500 props in one design. Furniture under Stats counts them.

Rotating

Press R while the ghost is on screen to turn it by 90 degrees before you click. A placed prop turns the same way when it is selected. In Fine mode R turns by 15 degrees and Shift+R turns back. A small bar at the foot of each prop marks its front.

Green and red

The ghost shows whether the prop fits where it is:

  • Green: the prop fits. A click places it.
  • Red: it would overlap another prop or stick out of the room. A click does nothing.

Stacking small items

Small props sit on top of tables, desks, counters and cabinets. Small means a footprint of up to 4 grid cells (1 m by 1 m) and at most 0.75 m tall, for example a cash register, a laptop or a lamp. Move the ghost over the furniture and it lifts onto the top.

Click at the front edge

A click on the top of the furniture itself does not always place the item, even when the ghost is green. Point at the front edge of the table in the 3D view, the side facing you, and click there. See a small item will not go on a table.

Wall decor

300 props in the catalogue hang on walls: signs, boards, neon lights, clocks and screens. Their ghost sticks to the nearest wall and takes the height the prop usually has. Place them like any other prop.

  • Selected, a wall prop shows Raise 10cm and Lower 10cm instead of Rotate. Its height is under Placement.
  • Dragging a wall prop moves it along the walls; it cannot leave them.

Selecting, moving and deleting

With Furnish on and no prop picked, click a placed prop to select it. It gets a ring and a label with its name and size. Drag it to move it; a green or red outline shows where it would land.

The Selection panel on the right shows the prop and its buttons:

  1. 1. Rotate (R)
  2. 2. Duplicate (D)
  3. 3. Delete (Del)
  • The name, and the GTA model name under it, for example prop_chair_02.
  • Cell, Rotation and Elevation: where it stands, which way it faces and how high it sits.
  • Rotate (R), Duplicate (D) puts a copy next to it, Delete (Del) removes it.

Fine placement

Fine in the toolbar switches to fine placement: dragged props move in 0.1 m steps instead of the 0.5 m grid, and R turns them by 15 degrees. Chairs snap to the edge of a table, desk or counter when you drag them close. Hold Alt for fine placement just while you drag.

A prop moved in fine mode shows fine under Placement. Moving it again without fine mode snaps it back to the grid.

Undo and clearing

  • Ctrl+Z undoes the last change, props and rooms alike. Ctrl+Y or Ctrl+Shift+Z redoes it.
  • Remove all furniture in the toolbar empties every room in one step, and Ctrl+Z brings it all back.
  • Older states of the whole design are in the version history.
