Start

The editor

Steps on the left, your ped in the middle, the settings of the step on the right. Every change is saved, and every preview is free.

The screen

The Ped Creator editor has three columns. The eight steps sit on the left, your ped in the middle, and the settings of the current step on the right.

  1. 1. Build steps: the eight steps; every one stays clickable
  2. 2. View: Rigged, Source or Vs. vanilla
  3. 3. Update preview / Build ped: free previews, then the paid build
  • The header shows the ped name, the autosave state, Saved drafts, New draft and Report.
  • Above the viewport, each step says in one line what it is for.
  • The footer of the settings column holds the price, Update preview and Build ped. It stays the same on every step.

On a tablet the steps turn into a row of tabs at the top. On a phone everything stacks in one column, and the footer with both buttons sticks to the bottom of the screen.

The phone footer is shorter. Update preview shows only its icon, and the price moves onto the build button. The line that says what is missing before a build is hidden, so check the yellow steps in the tab row instead.

The eight steps

The Ped Creator splits the work into eight steps. Every step stays clickable, and only Source needs you: the others start with settings that work for most human characters.

  1. 1. Source: a green check: covered by the last preview
  2. 2. Changed, needs a new preview: yellow until you update the preview
  3. 3. Name & build: the last step; never shows a check
  • 1. Source

Line under the name:Model or image
What you set there:A model or a picture, and Body type. Required.
  • 2. Fit & size

Line under the name:Height and orientation
What you set there:Height, legs for seats and cars, ground offset, orientation.
  • 3. Skeleton

Line under the name:Joints, fingers, face
What you set there:Check and move joints, mirror a side, finger and face bones.
  • 4. Skin weights

Line under the name:How the body bends
What you set there:Human or Creature, loose clothing, how the skin follows the bones.
  • 5. Parts

Line under the name:Triangles per part
What you set there:Triangle budgets, hidden skin, the shirt and pants split.
  • 6. Attachments

Line under the name:Pin objects to bones
What you set there:Rigid objects that move with one bone.
  • 7. Materials

Line under the name:Textures, see-through, glow
What you set there:Texture size, transparency and glow.
  • 8. Name & build

Line under the name:Ped name, ragdoll, build
What you set there:The ped name, ragdoll, build options and the build.

The circle in front of each step shows its state:

  • A number: nothing to confirm yet.
  • A green check: the step is done. Source gets it once a model is in, the next three steps after the first preview. Parts, Attachments and Materials get it once you set something there. Name & build never shows one.
  • Yellow, with Changed, needs a new preview under the name: you changed something since the last preview. Update the preview to see it.

Settings in Name & build never turn a step yellow. The ped name, the ragdoll and the build options do not change what the preview shows.

Note

Materials only gets its check when Texture size is not 2048. Turning on transparency alone changes the ped but leaves the step without a check.

Free previews

A Ped Creator preview rigs your ped with the current settings and shows it in the viewport. It takes 40 to 75 seconds and costs nothing.

  • The first preview starts on its own after the upload. After that, press Update preview in the footer, or Update in the status pill.
  • Each draft has 30 free previews. The line under the buttons counts down, for example “Previews are free: 28 of 30 left for this draft.”
  • Failed previews do not count. Queued, running and finished ones do, even when you delete the job later.
  • One preview runs at a time per account. Keep editing while it runs; your changes go into the next preview.
  • Build ped only unlocks when the last preview matches every setting. The build delivers exactly that preview, so you get what you saw.

The status pill at the top right of the viewport says where you are:

  1. 1. Update: starts a new free preview
  • Building preview · 42%

    A preview runs.
  • Waiting for a free 3D slot

The preview waits for a free slot on our servers; see below.
  • Generating model · 35%

A 3D model is being made from your picture.
  • Preview failed

The last preview stopped. A card over the viewport says why.
  • Skeleton changed

A setting changed since the last preview; with more steps it says 2 steps changed. Update starts a new preview.
  • Up to date · 52 s

The viewport shows your current settings. The seconds say how long the preview took.

While a preview runs

While a Ped Creator preview runs, a card over the viewport shows the stage. Five beats under the bar track the progress, and a line estimates the seconds left.

  1. 1. Stage: what the preview does right now
  2. 2. Import · Joints · Weights · Pose · Preview: the current beat is white
  • Import

Titles on the card:Reading your model, Standing it up
What happens:The file is read, stood upright, turned forward and scaled.
  • Joints

Titles on the card:Finding the joints
What happens:The joints are found in the mesh, or taken from your rig.
  • Weights

Titles on the card:Splitting the parts, Rigging your ped
What happens:Triangle budgets apply, and the skin is bound to the bones.
  • Pose

Titles on the card:Posing it like GTA
What happens:The ped moves into the GTA rest pose.
  • Preview

Titles on the card:Writing the preview, Writing the game files, Rendering pictures
What happens:The preview model, the game files and a test picture are written.

Waiting for a free 3D slot means other 3D jobs are running on our servers. Every 3D tool of SwisserAI shares these slots. Your preview starts as soon as one is free, and you can keep editing.

When a preview runs much longer than usual, the card says “Taking longer than usual.” A run stops at its time limit and shows This took too long; see Troubleshooting.

If a preview fails, a card with the reason takes the place of the progress card. Its button opens the step to fix, or says Try again. Every card is explained in Troubleshooting.

View, part chips and the mouse

The Ped Creator viewport shows your ped in three ways. Pick one with View at the top left:

  1. 1. View: Rigged, Source or Vs. vanilla
  2. 2. Up to date: the state of the preview
  • Rigged

What you see:The rigged preview on the GTA skeleton, with textures and animations.
Use it to:Check the ped as it will look in game.
  • Source

What you see:Your model after it was stood up and scaled, without a rig.
Use it to:Compare with the original, place joints, pick objects.
  • Vs. vanilla

What you see:Your ped next to a grey GTA body, male or female by Body type, with both heights.
Use it to:Check the size against a normal GTA ped.
  1. 1. Yours: your ped and its height
  2. 2. Vanilla: a GTA body of the same body type

The Skeleton and Attachments steps switch to Source and Rest on their own, because joints and objects are placed on the still model. Leaving the step switches back, unless you picked a view yourself.

The part chips at the bottom left, Head, Upper, Legs and Feet, hide a part while you look. They remove nothing from the ped; for fewer triangles, see Triangle budgets.

  1. 1. Head / Upper / Legs / Feet: hide a part while you look
  2. 2. Rest · animation · Turntable: play vanilla animations

With the mouse, drag to orbit and scroll to zoom. In Skeleton you click a joint and drag its arrows; in Attachments you click an object to select it.

Animations in the viewport

The Ped Creator plays GTA's own animations on your preview, so you see how the ped moves before you build. The control sits at the bottom right of the viewport: Rest, the animation menu and Turntable.

  1. 1. Rest: the GTA rest pose
  2. 2. Animation: 12 vanilla clips
  3. 3. Turntable: turns the ped slowly
Rest shows the GTA rest pose. Picking Walk in the animation menu plays the vanilla walk on the ped in place; Sit (car) seats it at the height of a car seat, without a car.
  • Idle

    Plays:Loops
    Version:Male and female
  • Walk

    Plays:Loops
    Version:Male and female
  • Run

    Plays:Loops
    Version:Male and female
  • Sprint

    Plays:Loops
    Version:Male and female
  • Sit (chair)

    Plays:Loops
    Version:Male and female
  • Sit (car)

    Plays:Loops
    Version:Male, also used for female
  • Wave

    Plays:Once, holds the last pose
    Version:Male and female
  • Dance

    Plays:Loops
    Version:Male and female
  • Crouch

    Plays:Loops
    Version:Male, also used for female
  • Jump

    Plays:Once, holds the last pose
    Version:Male, also used for female
  • Kick

    Plays:Once, holds the last pose
    Version:Male, also used for female
  • Hands

Plays:Once: a peace sign, then a rock sign
    Version:Male, also used for female

Rest shows the GTA rest pose. Turntable turns the ped slowly in that pose.

  • The animations play in place, at the height they have in game. Ground offset and leg length show exactly as on your server.
  • Sit (chair) and Sit (car) have no chair or car: the ped sits in the air, where the seat would be.
  • A female ped plays the female version where GTA has one.
  • A very tall ped sinks into the floor when it walks. That happens in game too.

Warnings and numbers

After each preview the Ped Creator checks the ped and lists up to three warnings under WATCH FOR, below the viewport. Each one names a problem and the setting that fixes it.

  1. 1. WATCH FOR: up to three warnings

A warning about joints, hips, arms or legs ends with an Open Skeleton link. Every warning is explained in Warnings under the view. The build also writes them into README.txt as notes.

The strip below shows the numbers of the last preview:

  1. 1. Height: in the GTA pose
  2. 2. Ragdoll: what the build will use
  • Height

The height of the ped in the GTA pose. When it differs from the height you set by more than 5 %, the set height follows, for example 2.88 m · set 2.40.
  • Triangles

All triangles of the ped. Vanilla peds use about 15,000.
  • Bones

Always 128, the GTA freemode skeleton. Hidden on narrow screens.
  • Ragdoll

The ragdoll the build will use: male, female, large male or large female.
  • Textures

How many texture files were found, and the texture size, for example 3 → 1024. Only shown when the model has textures.

Why the height can jump

Arms that are grown into the body, as on many generated models, get pulled out in the GTA pose and make the ped taller. When the height jumps, check the shoulder and arm joints in Skeleton.

Drafts and autosave

The Ped Creator saves your work into a draft about a second after each change. The header says Autosaves as you work, or Autosave failed, check your connection when a save did not go through.

  1. 1. Autosaves as you work: every change is saved into the draft
  2. 2. Saved drafts: your drafts, newest first
  3. 3. New draft: an empty editor; the old draft stays
  • A draft starts with the first upload. Opening the Ped Creator again resumes your most recent draft.
  • Saved drafts lists your drafts by ped name, newest first. A draft opens in a new tab, so the current one stays open.
  • New draft starts an empty editor. The old draft stays in Saved drafts.
  • You keep up to 30 drafts. Starting one more removes the draft you changed least recently, an empty one first. A draft with a model goes only when every other draft has one too.
  • Report opens the problem form, so you can tell us what went wrong on this page.
  1. 1. Saved drafts: click a draft to open it in a new tab

Careful

Free previews count per draft. A new draft has 30 again, but it starts empty: you upload the model again and redo your settings.
