Start

Your first ped

From your own character model to a ped you can play on your server. Previews are free; the build costs 2,500 credits.

Before you start

For the Ped Creator quick start you need three things:

  • A SwisserAI account with at least 2,500 credits for the build.
  • A character model as GLB, GLTF, VRM, FBX or OBJ, up to 200 MB. If its textures are separate files, put the model and the textures into one ZIP.
  • Access to the files of your FiveM server and its server.cfg.

No model at hand? Start from a picture instead; see Make a ped from a picture.

Eight steps to your ped

In the Ped Creator we turn a rigged character model (ped_source.glb) into the example ped of these pages, sws_mechanic.

  1. 1

    Open the Ped Creator

In the sidebar open Assets, then Ped Creator. The editor opens on Source, the first of eight steps.

    1. 1. Ped Creator: opens the editor
  2. 2

    Upload your model

Under Start from, keep 3D model. Drop your file on Drop your character here, or click it to pick the file. Then set Body type to Male or Female.

    1. 1. Start from: 3D model or Image
    2. 2. Drop your character here: GLB, GLTF, VRM, FBX, OBJ or ZIP up to 200 MB
    3. 3. Body type: male or female ped template

After the upload the editor suggests a ped name, sws_ plus the file name, and starts the first preview.

  3. 3

    Wait for the first preview

A card over the viewport shows the stages: Import, Joints, Weights, Pose and Preview. A preview usually takes 40 to 75 seconds. Ours took 53 seconds. It is free, and you can keep editing meanwhile.

    1. 1. Stage: what the preview does right now
    2. 2. Import · Joints · Weights · Pose · Preview: the current beat is white
  4. 4

    Check the rigged ped

When the pill at the top right says Up to date, the viewport shows your ped on the GTA skeleton. Open the animation menu at the bottom right and play Walk, Run and Sit (car).

    1. 1. Rest: the GTA rest pose
    2. 2. Animation: 12 vanilla clips
    3. 3. Turntable: turns the ped slowly

Switch View to Vs. vanilla to compare the height with a GTA ped. If a yellow WATCH FOR strip shows up under the view, read it: it names what to check, such as floating feet.

  5. 5

    Fix what you see

Most models need nothing here. If the ped has the wrong size, open Fit & size, turn off Keep the model's height and set Target height.

A changed step turns yellow and says Changed, needs a new preview. Press Update preview to see the change. Each draft has 30 free previews. Every setting is explained in The eight steps.

  6. 6

    Name it and build

Open Name & build and type the ped name, here sws_mechanic: lowercase letters, numbers and _ only. Leave the other options as they are.

    1. 1. Ped name: the model name in game
    2. 2. Ragdoll: Auto picks by body type and height
    3. 3. Options: LODs, Story Mode, 22 pictures
    4. 4. You get: with the chat command of your ped

Press Build ped at the bottom right. It unlocks when the last preview matches every setting and you have 2,500 credits.

  7. 7

    Download it

The editor moves to the job page of the build. A build usually takes 60 to 120 seconds. Ours took 91 seconds. Then the page turns into the result. Press FiveM .zip at the top right to download sws_mechanic.zip.

    1. 1. Thumbnails: click one to see it large
    2. 2. Height / Triangles / Ragdoll / Bones: the numbers of the built ped
    1. 1. FiveM .zip: downloads the resource
  8. 8

    Install it and play

Unzip the download into the resources folder of your server and add one line to server.cfg:

    ensure sws_mechanic

Restart the server and reconnect. Then type the chat command, and your character turns into the ped:

    /sws_mechanic
    1. 1. ensure: the line for server.cfg
    2. 2. /sws_mechanic: turns you into the ped

Good to know

This ped cost 2,500 credits for the build; the previews were free. To change it later, open the result page and press Open in the Ped Creator. A new build costs the build price again.

Any player can use the chat command

The chat command works for everyone on your server. Before players join, remove it or limit it to admins; see Limit or remove the chat command.
