Make your ped

Materials and textures

Texture size, and which materials stay see-through or glow in game. By default every material is solid, like on a vanilla ped.

Keep transparency and glow

Keep transparency and glow keeps the special materials of your model in the Ped Creator build: glass visors, glowing eyes and see-through fabric. It is off by default, which makes every material solid, like on a vanilla ped.

  1. 1. Keep transparency and glow: off: every material solid
  2. 2. Texture size: 1024 is plenty for most servers
  3. 3. Found in your file: material and linked texture

While it is off, the step lists what it found, for example “Found in your file: visor (see-through), eyes (glow).” Without special materials it says “Your file has no see-through or glowing materials.”

Turn it on for:

  • Visors, glass and see-through fabric.
  • Glowing eyes, lights and screens.
  • Plain coloured materials without a texture. With the switch on they keep their colour; off, they can come out grey.

Turning it on marks Materials as changed. After the next preview every material shows its type.

Note

The pictures show transparency and glow. How they look in game also depends on the light, so check the ped on your server.

Material types

With Keep transparency and glow on, the Ped Creator lists every material with a type. It reads the type from your file and shows the special ones first; a line such as Show 12 solid materials opens the rest.

  1. 1. Type list: Solid, Cut-out, See-through or Glow
  • Solid

Use it for:Skin, cloth, metal: everything that is not see-through.
    In game:The normal ped surface.
  • Cut-out

Use it for:Hard edges: lace, hair cards, eyelashes.
In game:Each pixel is either fully shown or fully gone.
  • See-through

Use it for:Glass, visors, thin fabric.
    In game:Partly transparent.
  • Glow

Use it for:Lights, glowing eyes, screens.
In game:Lit in its own colour, also in the dark.
  • Each row shows the number of faces, and for glow the glowing faces. A changed row adds what the file said, for example detected see-through.
  • Picking the detected type again removes your change.
  • The type comes from the file: the transparency setting in GLB, GLTF and VRM, the material setup in FBX and OBJ. The soft highlight on VRoid hair does not count as glow.

Change a type where the preview looks wrong, then update the preview.

Texture size

Texture size caps the texture sheet of each Ped Creator part, in pixels. Several textures of a part are packed into one sheet. The default is 2048.

  • 512

Background peds and very busy servers.
  • 1024

Most servers. It loads four times faster than 2048.
  • 2048

Close-ups and peds you want to show off.

Textures under the view shows the number of texture files found and the size, for example 3 → 1024. A smaller size makes the download smaller for every player who meets the ped.

Textures found in your file

Found in your file lists every material of your model with the texture the Ped Creator linked to it. It fills after the first preview.

  • “No textures found. The ped keeps the plain material colours.” means the file has no textures the Ped Creator could read. Embed them in a GLB, or put them into a ZIP with the model; see Textures and ZIP files.
  • A material without a texture keeps its colour value. If those colours come out grey, turn on Keep transparency and glow.
  • Toon-shaded skin, as on VRoid models, looks paler in game. GTA has no toon shading, so the shade colours of the skin are lost.
