Make your weapon
Choosing a base weapon
Everything the player feels comes from the base: handling, reload, recoil, sound and which attachments fit. Pick the base first, then the look.
What the base decides
Every Weapon Studio weapon starts from a GTA V base weapon. Your weapon takes over everything the player feels from it; only the look is replaced:
- Handling and animations: how the weapon is held, reloaded and swapped, and its recoil.
- Sound and camera: the shot sound and the camera while aiming.
- Ammo type: an Assault Rifle base uses rifle ammo, so existing ammo shops and inventories keep working.
- Mounts: where attachments can go. A pistol has no optic or foregrip mount.
- Fire mode: full auto for rifle and SMG bases, one shot per click for pistols, unless you change it.
So pick the base by how the weapon should play, not by how it looks. A blaster that should fire like a pistol gets the Pistol base, whatever its shape. Handling cannot be changed after the build.

The seven steps of the studio
The steps sit on the left. A green tick marks a step with what it needs; the line under each step follows your choices. You can click any step at any time. Only the build checks that everything is there.
- 1. Base weapon: a green tick marks a finished step
- 2. Not needed for a reskin: the hint under each step follows your choices

The strip under the viewport sums up the draft: base, look, triangle budget and the current price. The Watch for line above it names the one mistake to avoid in the current step.
- 1. Price: the current price of the build
Drafts and autosave
The studio saves everything into a draft as you work, including the files you upload. The header says Autosaves as you work. You can close the tab: the next time you open the Weapon Studio, your most recent draft opens where you left it.
- New draft at the top right starts a fresh weapon. The old draft is kept.
- A draft you built from can be reopened with Add attachments on the weapon's result page.
- You can keep up to 24 drafts.
Careful
The studio only reopens the most recent draft on its own; there is no list of older drafts yet. Build or finish one weapon before you press New draft.
